Junior hockey team in Laconia looking for housing for players

The New England Wolves, part of the Eastern Hockey League, are looking for host families for some of their out-of-state players. 

Located in Laconia, the Wolves are a junior hockey program for young adults hoping to play hockey at the NCAA level.

The program has expanded in recent years, now offering U16 through U20 teams, and that expansion means a greater need for housing. Right now, they’re still looking for places for 12 players to stay, said Andrew Trimble, a co-owner and general manager of the organization.

“We've had other families that have been with us for five or six years,” he said. “Every year we have a new one, and then some of the older people drop off. So it's kind of a cycle we go through. I would say that it's not abnormal this time of the year, but it's part of the building phase.”

With players arriving at the end of August, Trimble said he’s hoping to get ahead of the problem and find places for his players to live as soon as possible.

“We're looking for some families that are willing to open their doors, whether it be a Big Brother-type scenario or an empty nester who has a spare bedroom and is looking to build a relationship with a kid from outside the area who's very goal-oriented, driven and wants to be a college athlete,” Trimble said. “As a byproduct for becoming a host family, people get season tickets to all our games; we do a host family appreciation night, and we give them some gift cards to local restaurants. We try to do a lot for our host families to show our appreciation.”
